WEDDING PLANNING
HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY EXPERIENCE
Learn how to get the most out of your wedding photography experience — from building trust to staying present on your day. Guidance from a Regina wedding photographer.
June, 23rd, 2025
You’ve spent months planning every detail of your wedding...
From the florals to the dress, the stationery to the seating chart, you have spent months designing, planning, and curating what one of the most important days of your life will look like. But when the day finally arrives, your greatest gift you can give yourself will be the ability to be fully present in the moment — and to trust that your photographer to capture it all beautifully.
In this journal entry, I want to share with you the five, tried and proven ways that I know will help you to get the most out of your photography experience. These five tips will ensure that you can confidently celebrate your special day and be fully immersed in each moment because you have the peace of mind that your images are in expert, trustworthy hands — with the end result being timeless, emotional, and authentic imagery you will treasure forever.

1. Start with Trust and Connection
The most powerful photographs happen when you feel fully seen, safe, and understood. That’s why building a connection with your photographer before the wedding is key. It allows you to relax, be yourselves, and trust the person behind the lens to capture your story with heart and artistry. The stronger our relationship, the more honest and beautiful your images will feel to you so, treat our planning meetings and engagement session as a way to connect with each and me while feeling free to ask questions and share ideas so that we can work together to create images in which you feel fully seen and beautifully represented in.
What This Looks Like:
-
Honest conversations about your story and what matters most.
-
A relaxed engagement session to build comfort and familiarity.
-
Knowing and trusting that I — as your photographer — have your back throughout the day.

2. Communicate Your Vision Early
While you don’t need to hand me and a detailed shot list of every images you want captured on your special day, it is important to share with me what you value most. Is it capturing the quiet moments with your parents before the ceremony? A creative editorial portrait in a specific location? The joy of your guests on the dance floor? Or is it all/none of the above? If you have specific ideas, must-have moments, or heirloom details you want captured — let me know! Knowing these sometimes seemingly small yet very important details helps me capture the essence of your day and tell your story in a way that deeply resonates with you — this is your story, and I want to do it justice by making make sure it's told in a way that feels true to you and honours your love.
How to Do This:
-
Share inspiration that reflects the tone, light, and emotion you love. While we will not recreate specific images, we will use it as fuel for creating something beautiful and uniquely you.
-
Telling me about any special heirlooms, rituals, or surprises you may have planned helps me know to give special attention to those details.
-
Talk through your timeline together to ensure space for your priorities — because the last thing we want is to feel rushed and have things that are important to you fall through the cracks.

3. Create Time and Space in Your Timeline
The best photos don’t happen when everyone is rushed. They happen when you’ve built in room to breathe. This means crafting a timeline that protects time for portraits, editorial imagery, and unscripted joy — without feeling like a whirlwind.
What Makes a Difference:
-
Extra buffer time before the ceremony and at sunset
-
Room to adjust when real life runs behind schedule
-
A planner or coordinator to manage transitions

4. Protect Quiet, Candid Moments
So often, couples are surprised by which photos become their favorites — a tearful glance, a spontaneous hug, a moment they didn’t even realize happened. These are the images that tell the truth of your day. Leave the logistics to your planner and trust your team. The more you focus on each other and the emotion of the day, the more naturally beautiful your photos will be.
How to Capture Them:
-
Give yourself space between events to be present
-
Stay close to the people you love — emotion follows connection
-
Let your photographer roam freely for candid coverage

5. Be Present and Let Go
This may be the most important piece of advice: trust that what you've planned will unfold as it should. When you let go of the need to control every moment, you open yourself up to truly experiencing it — and that’s when the magic happens. Leave the logistics to your planner and trust your team. The more you focus on each other and the emotion of the day, the more naturally beautiful your photos will be.
What That Means:
-
Don’t worry if the wind blows your veil or if it rains for 10 minutes
-
Focus on your partner, your people, and your joy
-
Let your photographer handle the rest
